When traveling to other places in Thailand from Pattaya, there are a couple of things you need to be aware of.
1- The Pattaya airport is nearly 45 minutes’ drive from the Pattaya city center.
2- You can take a taxi from Pattaya to Bangkok for around 1000 baht and it will take about 2 hours.
Because of this, many people traveling to Pattaya will simply fly into Bangkok and take a taxi or mini bus to Pattaya city.
However, there are a few places that it makes sense to fly directly into Pattaya. For example, Samui and Phuket are great if you want to quick weekend visit to the City of Sin.
Fast Option: Taxi
– Book Through: Your hotel, a travel agency, or find asking random taxis in Pattaya.
– Price: Between 1,000 to 3,000 baht (30 – 90usd)
– Time: Usually around 2 hours depending on traffic
Medium Option: Fly
The reason why flying is not the fast option is because the Pattaya airport is located around 45 minutes from the city center of Pattaya. So between the waiting at the airport, the flight time, and taxi from the airport to your hotels – Flying is often not the quickest route to go.
– Book Through: Any major Thai airline.
– Price: Starting at 1000 baht (30usd)
– Time: (See above. Usually around 2 – 3 hours in total)
Slow Option: Bus
– Book Through: Any travel agency in Thailand
– Price: Starting at 200 baht
– Time: Usually 2.5 to 3 hours depending on traffic
Fast Option: Fly
– Book Through: Any airlines that flies from Bangkok Chiang Mai. Simply take a taxi from Pattaya to Bangkok Airport
– Price: Starting at 3,000 baht (90usd)
– Time: Around 3 hours of total travel time
Note: There are rarely any direct flights from Chiang Mai to Pattaya. And it usually works out fast to take a private taxi from Bangkok to Pattaya instead of flying from Bangkok to the Pattaya airport.
Slow Option: Bus / Train
– Book Through: Any travel agency in Thailand
– Price: 500 – 1000 baht (15 – 30usd)
– Time: 12+ hours
Fast Option: Fly
– Book Through: Bangkok Air
– Price: 4,000 baht (120usd) each way
– Time: 1 hour and 20 minutes
Slow Options: Boat and Bus
– Book Through: Any Thai travel agency
– Price: 1,400 baht – 2,000 (45 – 60usd)
– Time: 10 – 14 hours + 2 hours from Bangkok to Pattaya by taxi or minibus
Note: First you will take a taxi or mini bus to Bangkok. Then you will be take a bus and boat from Bangkok to Samui.
1- The Bus Prices
There are two different types of buses in Thailand, the cheap Thai option, and the more expensive foreigner buses. In all the above prices, I used the more expensive bus route. Why? All these buses that cost more will have air-conditioning, reclining chairs, and not stop every 5 minutes to pick up and drop off passengers which drastically adds additional time to the journey.
Also, if you want the best prices from the travel agencies, simply ask 3 different travel agencies what their best price is. You’ll be surprised at how much negotiation room there is.

FYI: You will get cheaper prices by booking your flight on these websites. A travel agency will rarely save you any money for flights within Thailand.
3- Train
I rarely recommend taking the train in Thailand. The train system always tend to be hours behind schedule, random break downs, and simply not comfortable. If you decide to take the train anywhere, try the Bangkok to Chiang Mai route and make sure you get a sleeping bed.
Two great websites for Thailand train routes and schedules are:

what is the best airline to use to get to Thailand from Los Angeles CA in January 2014?
When I fly from L.A., I always go with Eva Air. Most of the year you can get a roundtrip ticket for under 1,000usd. You can also upgrade to business class for only a few hundred more.
I found one just the other day on United Airlines for about 805 dollars. So Im on my way there in January. You better be available to go out and party bro Im tearin it up. haahaaha
Good price. Is that for roundtrip?
