Koh Chang is beautiful, but getting around is not always easy.
The mountainous terrain, combined with the long distances between beaches—too long to walk or bike—means that “songtaew” pickup-truck taxis are often the order of the day. The taxis are reliable—when you can find one, which can be difficult in the off season. You may find yourself hiring privately.
One alternative is to rent a motorbike, which can be done at almost all of Koh Chang’s beaches. The standard rate is about 200 baht for a full day and that should include a helmet.
Another alternative, albeit far more expensive, is to rely on hotel transportation, which is easily available and generally reliable. For large groups, this may be the best option.
