Ratchadapisek Road is filled with plenty of shopping options. Enormous malls as well as some smaller shops cater to the many customers who wander through their doors each day. It is a bit out of the way compared to most places visitors are interested in in Bangkok, but if you are in the area you have lots of shopping venues to choose from.
Union Mall is especially popular with younger Thais, including both workers and students. It has eight floors containing more than one thousand stores and also has a very large food court, which serves a variety of global cuisines. You will also find various entertainment options, a gym, and even a large grocery store inside. The market outside of the mall is also a fun place to browse. It opens at 5 p.m., while the mall is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Central Rama 9 is a multi-story shopping destination feature hundreds of shows in addition to a number of entertainment options. These include a cinema, an ice rink (The Rink), and a number of cafes and restaurants. It is one of the most conveniently located shopping complexes in the area, located at the intersection of Ratchadapisek and Rama IX. It is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Mansion 7 is an unusual mall in that it has a spooky horror theme. Allegedly haunted, the mall has a number of interesting stores in addition to some restaurants and cafes. Sections of Mansion 7 include the Neglected Garden and the Dark Mansion. There is also a playground here. Everything here has a creepy or ghostly theme. It costs 320 Baht to enter the Dark Mansion area for half of an hour. Mansion 7 is open from noon to midnight daily.
Unique among the shops of Ratchada is Papaya Vintage Shop. It has some really intriguing vintage finds as well as some other offbeat items. It is really a warehouse, and it definitely looks like one. It is a bit out of the way, but may be worth a visit just to say you have been there.
The IT Mall of Fortune Towne is filled with technological goods, some counterfeit, but altogether of better quality than what can be found over at the more favored Pantip IT Mall. The prices are great that there is good service, here too. It is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is located at Rama IX and Ratchadapisek Roads.
Located right on Ratchada Road is The Esplanade, a shopping complex that has numerous shops and eateries as well as a large cinema complex, an ice rink, and even a theater used for musical performances. It is conveniently located directly outside of the MRT stop of Thailand Cultural Center. This is an interesting building that has enough stores and attractions to compete with any shopping mall in Bangkok. It is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
