Getting to Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta can be reached by car via two special vehicle ferries which connect to the island at Koh Lanta Noi and at Koh Lanta Yai. They run all day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for most of the year and from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. during the Green Season. Ferry rides to Koh Lanta Noi take about twenty-five minutes while the ferry to Koh Lanta Yai takes only about ten minutes.

From Krabi to Koh Lanta

To get to Koh Lanta from Krabi, take a passenger ferry from the Klong Jirat pier, just a couple of miles from Krabi Town. This ferry goes back and forth between the islands twice per day and can connect with longboat transfers to Koh Jum or Railay Bay. The journey from Krabi to Koh Lanta will take about two hours and arrives at Baan Saladan.

You can also get to Koh Lanta from the Krabi Bus Station. This journey will take about two to three hours and are fairly cheap. Sign-up for minibus tickets at Krabi Airport.

From Trang to Koh Lanta:

From Trang, Koh Lanta is reached by minibus. These buses leave daily from a point across from the Trang Town train station. The trip generally lasts a little over two and half hours. During the height of the tourist season (generally November to April), there are extra buses and you can book your ticket ahead of time to ensure a seat.

From Phuket & Phi Phi to Koh Lanta:

Ferries leaving from Ratsada Pier in Phuket from October to late June. These journeys take about three and a half hours and include a transfer or stop at Koh Phi Phi. Here you will either continue immediately on to Koh Lanta by transferring to another boat or wait a little while for such a boat to arrive. The ferry makes its journey twice per day.

You can also reach Koh Lanta by bus from Phuket Town. This journey will take up to five hours, but it is much cheaper.

Getting Around Koh Lanta

There are roads connecting all the major areas of the island. There is a main road that follows the east coast and another that follows the rest, with four roads across the island that connect the two.

Motorbikes, taxis, trucks, and minibuses are all easy to hire once you get on the island.

Koh Lanta Weather

Weather in Koh Lanta usually includes temperatures between 75 and 97 degrees Fahrenheit (24 to 36 degrees Celsius). Late spring is the hottest time of year, but during the high season from November to April the weather is cooler and the water is generally calm.
