There are many good bars and restaurants in Bophut and most have a relaxed atmosphere and cool style. They are not as lively as those in Chaweng and elsewhere, but they are great for just hanging out.
You’ll find a lot of the “clean” bars in Fisherman’s Village. While in the along the Bophut street you will find many beer bars filled with “bar girls” who are always looking for some male companionship…at a price.
Below is a brief nightlife guide for a few places in Bophut to start out your night in:
The Billabong Surf Club is friendly and conveniently located right downtown. It has plenty of beers, wines, and other drinks available, and is very much a place for expats to hang out, meet others, and chat. Some nights there is live music and there are almost always sports matches playing on the big screen TVs. They open at 10 p.m. and stay open late.
This pub has a good laid-back atmosphere and is very popular for its weekly Wednesday trivia nights. They offer good, filling pub food and both the owners and staff are friendly. The pub has TVs for watching sports, a pool table, and regular music. It’s open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and is located on the main street of Fisherman’s Village.
Near the western end of Bophut Bay is Gecko Village, a good bar that is known for its music. Relaxed and friendly, the resident DJ is also the owner and there are Sunday parties that feature special guest DJs and drummers. There are even some bungalows available for rent here, and the bar is open from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Sweeney Todd’s Café Bar offers beers, English breakfast, and plenty of pub foods. Not far from the entrance of Fisherman’s Village, this bar also has a tour desk giving out local information. The Sweeney Todd’s Café Bar is a great place to go for good conversation with friends or you can strike one up with fellow patrons. It’s open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Sirocco Bar is housed in an old shop house and is a good relaxation bar, with plenty of bamboo, colorful cushions, and a laid-back atmosphere. They play jazz and popular 60s music but most people come here to eat, drink, and chat with friends. It’s very popular with travelers and expats, so come here and swap some stories. They are closed on Tuesdays but are otherwise open from 10 a.m. onwards.
