Chaweng is the most popular beach on Koh Samui thanks to its great sand and lovely waters. Increasingly popular with tourists, this 3 mile beach has a small reef and some very nice scenery.
The beach is excellent for swimming and in the high season the atmosphere becomes livelier. Conveniently located restaurants and stores make your stay easy, and it very much has a vacation-destination feel.
If you’re looking for a more secluded spot, head to Chaweng’s southern end where you will find Chaweng Noi, which is not as crowded. The deepest waters are found in the southern and middle areas of Chaweng Beach, so these are the best spots for swimming or playing games in the water. You can also go kayaking, windsurfing, waterskiing, and more.
Young children are better off in the shallow waters at the northern end.
The beaches are great for sunbathing, but always be wary of the sun. It does get very hot so you may want to head inside during the more dangerous times anyway.
You may have to rent some space on the beach if you are not staying in the beachfront accommodations. Besides the hotels, you’ll find plenty of massage parlors, beauty salons, knick-knack stores, and regular shopping destinations where you can shop for essentials not far from the beach.
There are plenty of restaurants and bars around. Many serve Thai food but there are a variety of cuisines available, and many dining destinations are family-friendly. Often open late into the night, these are more than just places to eat; they’re also the perfect spot to end a nice day with a fun night out with friends or have a romantic meal with a loved one.
