If you are wondering where to go to hear live music in Patong, it won’t be because you lack options. Patong is the place to go for nightlife and that includes live music. Music is guaranteed to be performed every night at least a few venues, so there are always several places to choose from. Some have a more laid-back style while others are livelier dancing hotspots. Whatever your music and nightlife style, you will find good bands playing at night in Patong.
A short distance from the center of nightlife on Bangla Road, Banana Bar has live music every night, mainly from the Sandman Band who have proved to be quite good and popular. In fact, if you want to go hear them in high season, you are advised to book in advanced. The Banana Bar is open every night starting at 5 p.m. but the band doesn’t play until 9:30. This bar is properly described as a pub and restaurant. It is located right in front of the Banana Disco.
If you want to hear some heavy metal or hard rock in Patong, head to Rock City. It has a great location on Rat-U-Thit, looking out towards Bangla. It is easy to find, not only because it is so well-situated but because it has two huge recycled metal statues out front. If that doesn’t work, just look for the giant screen above letting you know that you have indeed reached Rock City.
At the intersection of Rat-U-Thit and Bangla sits Red Hot, which was once known as Margarita’s. This bar is open from noon until late into the night and has live music every night starting at around 7:30. It’s one of the nicer venues of this kind in Bangla Road, so check it out and enjoy the food or a pool game with friends.
Next to the Courtyard Marriot Resort is the Hard Rock Café Phuket. This is a huge bar and restaurant complete with outdoor seating and, of course, all the usual merchandise and décor associated with Hard Rock Cafes around the world. They have live music every night from about 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. The restaurant opens at 11 a.m. Sometimes you may be able to take part in fun talent games and get a discount on your drinks, so have some fun and save a little, too.
Located at Banthai Beach Resort, this dining venue also has live music performances each night from both Thai and international bands. Although The Port is mainly focused on serving meals, they don’t skimp on good music and encourage dancing. The Port in Patong is open from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Scruffy Murphy’s is another pub-style bar. In addition to the pub food and Guinness (along with other drinks), this pub welcomes everyone, including families, but kids usually aren’t around for the live music later at night. There are performances every night excluding Sunday starting at around 10 p.m. and lasting until late. Come hang out and enjoy the bands while sipping from your pint. Scruffy Murphy’s located a short distance down Soi Bangla.
This bar has a pub feel, complete with Irish pub food and pints of Guinness. The music is usually acoustic and most acts are quite good. A fun, welcoming atmosphere pervades this pub and you will enjoy watching others do some jigs or taking part yourself. They have live music every night starting at 9:30 p.m. and are open all day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
